There is more good news, according to AT&T rules, it should provide Unlock Codes for all the GSM phones

Jailbreak iPhone OS 3.0 Beta 5

iPhone OS 3.0 beta 5 software build 7a312G was released to developers only a week after the release of the 4th beta. Usually Apple releases beta firmware in 2 weeks, but this time they released the beta very early. Could this mean we are getting closer to the final release of iPhone OS 3.0? The iPhone Dev Team believes that we are half way there and they state that the iPhone OS 3.0 can always be jailbroken and Apple can only change that by changing their hardware. Ever since iPhone OS 3.0 beta 1 was released, there has always been a jailbreak released for each and every update by santtiaga from iPhoneApps.ru. One thing many jailbreakers may have missed during the beta jailbreaks is that Cydia never worked. Saurik, the creator of Cydia has been working hard and he has finally released the Cydia bundle for iPhone OS 3.0. This means you can finally use Cydia on iPhone OS 3.0, and third-party applications will continue to be sold once iPhone OS 3.0 comes out. Here is the direct download for QuickPWN 3.0 Beta 5. This download will work on the iPod Touch 1st Generation, iPhone 2G, and iPhone 3G.
I recently signed up as an iPhone Developer using QuickPWN as my company name. I intend to develop apps for the App Store and submit them under this name. Before submitting any actual application to the App Store I wanted to do an experiment and submit a simple web app to Apple’s Web Apps section to see whether or not Apple would approve it. I downloaded WPTouch, an awesome Wordpress plugin that automatically converts this site into a mobile version when visited on the iPhone. Visit this site on your iPhone or iPod Touch to see a demo. I submitted this as a web application to Apple yesterday and it was approved and listed on their website today. About an hour before this post Apple removed the app from their website. I wasn’t surprised at the quick removal because the app was listed on Tech Crunch, Gizmodo, and 9 to 5 Mac. Now I understand that Apple is against jailbreaking, but I do not see anything wrong with my web app. The only thing I see wrong with it is that it has the name of a popular jailbreaking tool. Why did Apple remove it? The obvious reason would be because of the name, but it could also be because I submitted it under the “Ganes” category. This type of app would be better for the “News” category so I will be resubmitting it again and putting it in the correct category this time. I will also be submitting an app to the App Store around June under the company name of QuickPWN, and I really hope Apple will not reject it just because my company name is the name of a popular jailbreaking software. I am not associated with the iPhone Dev Team, and I do not develop jailbreaks. If anyone missed it, below is a screenshot of the webapp on Apple.com, before it was removed.

WARNING: iPhone 3G users, do you use yellowsn0w? If you use yellowsn0w or if you plan to use it in the future you should NOT use this jailbreak. iPhone OS 3.0 is still in beta and a lot of jailbroken apps need to be updated to support it. Don’t be surprised if a lot of your favorite apps don’t work, you will have to wait until the final iPhone OS 3.0 release to get your favorite apps. This is a beta release so please do not ask for support on this. If you want, you can join the iPhone OS 3.0 forum and get help there.

Step by Step Guide to JailBreak iPhone 3G using Windows

If you are a Windows user and were feeling left out as unlock-the-iphone is only available for Mac then you don't need to anymore as folks at Whirlpool.net.au Forums have figured out a way to jailbreak iPhone 3G using Windows just like some clever folks had figured out a Step-by-Step Guide to Pwn first generation iPhone running firmware 2.0 using Windows.
You can check out the step by step guide to only jailbreak your iPhone 3G for Windows users after the jump.

Please do remember, hacking your iPhone is at your own risk. Before you start hacking your iPhone, it's a good idea to backup your iPhone.

The step by step instructions that Windows users need to follow to jailbreak iPhone 3G is mentioned below.

Step 1: You need to download two files: x12220000_4_Recovery.ipsw and iPhone1,2_2.0_5A347_Custom_Restore.ipsw.

Step 2: Make sure you have iTunes 7.7 installed.

For Vista: Click Start then copy this into the search box and press enter after:
For XP: Click start then run, then copy this into the run box:

%appdata%\Apple Computer\iTunes

Step 3: Make a directory called: Device Support. If the directory already exists, clear it.

Step 4: Copy x12220000_4_Recovery.ipsw into the Device Support folder you just created.

Step 5: You need to get your device into DFU mode. You can follow these steps to achieve this:

  • Connect your iPhone to your computer.
  • Turn iPhone off.
  • Hold power and home together for 10 seconds (exactly).
  • Release power but keep holding home until the computers beeps (observed on a PC) as a USB device is recognized.
  • At no point will the display come on. Now your restore should work.

Step 6: Once your phone is in DFU mode and detected by iTunes (should be black screen on phone NOT iTunes logo with USB cable), click on iPhone in iTunes, then hold the SHIFT key and click on restore.

Step 7: Browse to the folder where you downloaded iPhone1,2_2.0_5A347_Custom_Restore.ipsw and select it. iTunes will then extract the file and you will see the iPhone Dev Team's pineapple logo pop up after a few seconds, as seen in the screen shot below:

Step 8: When restoring has completed, it will ask you to connect to iTunes, then re-do the activation process (download carrier settings).

Step 9: Restore your backup, this should automatically be made. It should pop up right after downloading carrier settings, but you may also do it by right clicking your iPhone on the left, and selecting "restore iPhone".
