Downgrade iPhone Baseband From 2.30.03 to 2.28.00 with downgrade
Even after several warnings from iPhone Dev team, not to upgrade iPhone 3G 2.0 to firmware 2.2.1 still many users upgraded accidentally or out of curiosity. The reason behind not to upgrade to firmware 2.2.1 was once you upgrade iPhone 3g to firmware 2.2.1 it also upgrades your baseband from 2.28.00 to 2.30.03.Once your baseband is changed to 2.30.3 you can not use yellowsn0w (first soft unlock tool for iPhone 3G) to unlock your iPhone 3g, also method to downgrade iPhone 3G 2.2.1 to 2.2 doesn’t work as it doesn’t downgrade your baseband. There is only one hope and that is iPhone dev team to release yellosn0w version which can unlock iPhone 3G firmware 2.2.1 with baseband 2.30.03 but there is no news about iPhone dev team future plans on working another yellowsn0w version, which is big downside for all those iPhone 3G users stuck with firmware 2.2.1.

How to Enable DFU Mode in Mac OS X 10.5.6
These are instructions on how to enable DFU mode detection in Mac OS X 10.5.6. In order to pwn your iPhone for jailbreak or unlock you will need to have iTunes detect your iPhone in DFU mode. Normally this was not a problem; however, it seems Apple has disabled this ability in OS X 10.5.6.
Volkspost from Hackint0sh.org has released an Automator program to fix this. You can find instructions below on how to use it. A big thanks go out to him for his efforts.
***WARNING: While this does not affect all users, it is possible that QuickTime 7.6 may freeze your keyboard and mouse. Please uninstall this patch before installing QuickTime 7.6
***ALTERNATIVE: Rather then following this tutorial a much easier solution is the use of a USB hub between your iPhone and the computer. If you are not an advanced user it is suggested that a USB Hub be used until an update to the script has been posted
Step One
Download the Automator program(Install_IOUSBFamily_kext_10_5_5.zip) from here and save it to your desktop.
Step Two
Double click the downloaded zip(Install_IOUSBFamily_kext_10_5_5.zip) on your desktop to extract it.
Step Three
Double click the extracted folder(Install_IOUSBFamily_kext_10_5_5) to open it.
Step Four
Double click the Fix_DFU_10_5_6 icon to launch the Automator script.
Step Five
If warned that the application was downloaded from the Internet click the Open button.
Step Six
You will then be displayed the Readme for the script. Make sure you are logged into Mac OS X using an administrator account then click the OK button.
Step Seven
The Automator script will then attempt to close all open applications. A window will pop up asking for your Administrator password. Enter the password then click the OK button.
Step Eight
Another dialog box will appear informing you that caches necessary for boot are being updated. Click the OK button.
Step Nine
Your computer will then reboot. Once it has you will be able to detect an iPhone in DFU mode again.
The full procedure of the Automator program is as follows:
1. checks if you are at Mac OS X 10.5.6 or better (if not will quit)
2. show a readme
3. quits all running apps (with save option)
4. backup the original files (AppleUSBHub.kext and IOUSBCompositeDriver.kext from 10.5.6) in a new folder on your Desktop
5. ask for your admin password
6. copy AppleUSBHub.kext and IOUSBCompositeDriver.kext from 10.5.5 into the desired location on your Mac
7. set owner:group and permissions
8. rebuild the kextcache
9. reboot your Mac

Downgrade firmware 2.2.1 to 2.2 iPhone
Ziphone Blog:
Many users have accidentally upgraded to firmware 2.2.1 on their devices and they have lost their jailbreak. People repeatedly keep asking how to downgrade firmware 2.2.1 to 2.2.
Here is how you can downgrade from firmware 2.2.1 to 2.2:
* Connect your iPhone to your Mac or PC and select your iPhone from the list of devices in iTunes. If things had gone horribly wrong while hacking your iPhone and iTunes does not detect your iPhone then you will need to put it in DFU (Device Firmware Upgrade) mode.
o You can follow these steps to put your iPhone in DFU mode (this is required only if iTunes does not recognize your iPhone):+ Connect your iPhone to your computer.+ Turn iPhone off.+ Hold power and home together for 10 seconds (exactly).+ Release power but keep holding home until the computers beeps (observed on a PC) as a USB device is recognized.+ A few seconds later iTunes should detect your iPhone.
* In the Summary Tab, Hold down Option and press the “Restore” button. If you are using Windows hold down Shift and press the Restore button. (This is an important step as just pressing the “Restore” button will result in restoring your iPhone with the latest firmware which is firmware 2.2 currently, by holding down Option in case of Mac or Shift in case of Windows, allows you choose the firmware file that you want to downgrade to.)
After restoring download Unlocker from http://www.xiphone.org and use it to jailbreak unlock your firmware 2.2.
